MI-ORTO

A PROJECT OF URBAN AGRICULTURE DURING MILAN FASHION WEEK AND BEYOND

MI-ORTO is an off-ground urban agriculture project for Piazza XXV Aprile in Milan, conceived and promoted by Eataly Milano Smeraldo with the patronage of the Municipality of Milano Municipio 1. It was born from the collaboration between Liveinslums Onlus (creator and project leader) and a series of associations/ groups that are active in Milan in the field of urban agriculture and ecological and social design with site-specific projects realized in different districts of the city that involve the citizens.
Eataly has always promoted sustainable agriculture and collaborates with the best Italian producers who work respecting nature, traditions and raw materials. With the same philosophy, Eataly is promoting the MI-ORTO project with the aim of bringing agriculture closer to the city of Milan. Creating a place open to all to grow biodiversity, a shared space dedicated to seasonality, and the rediscovery of ancient seeds for sustainable agriculture.
The MI-ORTO project consists of an installation of urban gardens with built-in chairs capable of transforming the piazza's square during the days of Design Week into a true urban farm. An ecological event dedicated to urban agriculture that involves the whole city of Milan, its associations, and citizens, both Italian and foreign, that will take part in the Fuori Salone events and initiatives.
